The Gambling Commission has endorsed a joint police operation targeting unauthorized wagering venues in Sheffield and Doncaster. The coordinated raids were conducted on 4 and 5 August 2026 as part of Operations Duxford and Snaresbrook.
Officers executed search warrants at multiple locations suspected of hosting unlicensed betting activities and processing illicit funds. Authorities recovered sixteen unauthorized betting terminals along with cash and gold reserves. Three individuals were taken into custody during the searches.
The initiative combined efforts from South Yorkshire Police, the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, local councils, Immigration Enforcement, and the Gambling Commission. Regulators noted that unlicensed operators fall outside the statutory framework governing approved betting firms, leaving customers without mandatory consumer safeguards.
The Commission also highlighted connections between unauthorized wagering networks and broader organized crime structures.

Sue Young, Executive Director of Operations at the Gambling Commission, stated: "Unlicensed operators function outside the regulatory framework, leaving consumers without mandatory protections." The regulator confirmed plans to maintain collaborative enforcement campaigns with law enforcement agencies to monitor and dismantle unauthorized betting operations throughout Great Britain.
